Yes, you are reading this welcome page on our new website! Your committee has now had a chance to look through it and we have decided to launch it to all members. Our grateful thanks go to Chris Coughlan and his team at Preview Design, particularly Craig Jackson who has delivered this website for us all.
I shall be grateful if you will also look through it; your comments will be most welcome, not only on what you see now but also your ideas for further development.
I hope you are all well and managing to cope with the on-going restrictions and getting out for exercise. Now that some restrictions have been eased it would be great to see you knocking a ball around at the club. Singles only at the moment, other than for those from the same household who can enjoy doubles.
Despite the unavailability of the tennis club, the committee has remained busy on your behalf. The club grounds and clubhouse have been inspected weekly to ensure there were no unforeseen maintenance issues and those that were seen, have been attended to.
Regarding finance, I am delighted to confirm that the Club has applied and been successful in obtaining grants from both Sport England and Three Rivers District Council, both extremely helpful during our hibernation. Despite the closure, you will of course appreciate that we have both fixed and variable costs which continue.
Regarding these costs, as mentioned in a previous communication it would be extremely helpful to the club if you will now renew your membership.
Included in our on-going costs is some interim financial support we have given to our coaches while they compile their claims for support from the Government & the LTA. This has been much appreciated by our coaches and indeed the Herts LTA who have welcomed this gesture.
We are all looking forward to a return to some form of normal life, when the time is right, and it is safe to do so. Clearly that ‘normal life’ is still some way off however the restricted re-opening of our tennis club is a start which I hope many of us will be able to enjoy. Our more prevalent doubles, chasing a ball around, quietly blaming our partner and socialising afterwards, is a little further down the track but let us keep those days firmly in view.
Meanwhile stay safe and healthy everyone; specifically stay at home (and peruse this new website!) protect the NHS and save lives / stay alert, control the virus, and save lives.
With best wishes,
Chris Van Dyk
Chairman CLTC
