Hi everyone.
Following the Government announcements on Thursday 28th May, we have been waiting for clarification from the LTA regarding the revised guidance for tennis players.
This has now been published and I am sure you will all be delighted to know that doubles play can resume from Monday 1st June.
Both singles play and doubles play is now permitted with people from outside of your household – as long as you remain 2 metres apart as far as possible – meaning that four people from different households can now play doubles.
I am sure many will be understandably cautious and not wish to rush back into playing doubles with people from outside your household. If that is the case may I suggest that playing ‘household doubles’ (i.e. a couple from a household against another couple from a household) as they have permitted in Scotland, may be an interim step you may wish to consider.

We will also take this opportunity to re-open courts 2 & 5 so that all 6 courts will be available for play from Monday 1st June.
The Clubhouse however, will remain closed as both the scientific and medical view is that infection and transmission is more likely indoors.
We must be vigilant in both our individual and collective efforts to avoid infection.
Key points:
- Stay 2 metres apart as far as possible, both on and off the court
- We recommend wearing a glove on your non-serving hand, preferably both hands
- Players do not now need to use their own clearly marked tennis balls – however, if you choose to use shared balls then extra care must be taken to ensure you do not touch your face during play, and if you choose not to wear gloves you should clean your hands before play and immediately after finishing, using the hand sanitiser provided
- Players should still avoid using their hands to pick up tennis balls from other courts where possible – use your racquet/foot to return them
Once again, you are reminded that the Covid-19 pandemic is not over.
Despite a return to doubles play, there is clearly still a risk of catching and transmitting Covid-19. The Club will follow all LTA guidelines and provide as safe an environment for tennis as is possible. However, coming to Chorleywood Lawn Tennis Club to play tennis is entirely at your own risk.
I look forward to seeing you on court soon.
