It may seem a statement of the obvious, but Covid-19 is very much still with us and is likely to be so for some considerable time. We are extremely fortunate that geography, and the good sense of most people locally, seems to have hitherto generally prevailed in and around Chorleywood. However, that does not mean we can become complacent.
The committee has worked extremely hard to ensure the environment we all enjoy playing tennis in, remains as safe as is practicably possible. However, it is evident that the ever-popular social sessions are becoming a cause for concern. Social distancing on court appears to me to generally be undertaken quite well as players are naturally / usually some way apart. Social distancing while socialising afterwards, around the tables: not so much!
I realise this is outdoors when potential transmission of the virus is less likely, however it seems to me that people are no longer socially distancing correctly.
We have placed stickers and notices all round the patio area to remind people about social distancing so PLEASE, do not become complacent. Think very carefully about your behaviour.
As we have seen, it may not be you but an elderly relative or friend with underlying health issues that suffers as a result.
There are anecdotal reports of the Council undertaking spot checks in public places. Although this is not yet confirmed, if it is the case, we must be extremely careful – indeed vigilant – otherwise they have the power to close us which none of us would want.
Stay alert, NOT complacent, and enjoy your tennis.
Kind regards,
Chris
