Summer Tournament Finals Day – Sunday 8th September 2024

The day started with two doubles matches; the Mixed Doubles saw the Stamp & Coles younglings (Sienna & Felix) beat the Stamp & Coles not so younglings (Jaina & Andy) 6-4 6-2.  The Ladies Doubles Plate was topsy turvy with Naomi & Claire triumphing 7-5 0-6 6-1 over Chrisse & Deborah.

Isa & Wendy triumphed once again in the Ladies Doubles 6-4 7-5; the wait goes on for Alex, playing with Caroline this year.  Jack and Siebe had a battle in the Men’s Singles Plate with Jack coming out on top 6-3 7-5.

Then we came to the marathon that was the Ladies Singles Plate with Sue edging out Claire 5-7 6-3 7-6 (14-12) in an epic 3.5-hour struggle.  Umpire Mick Corrie had to be surgically removed from the umpire’s chair.

The Men’s Doubles title went back to the Coles with Andy & Felix beating Jonathan & Jack in a hard hitting 7-5 6-4 win.

Jaina got revenge for her Mixed Doubles loss with a 7-5 6-1 win over younger sister Sienna and in doing so makes it five singles titles in a row; heading for Jess Stones’ 9!  The Men’s Doubles Plate saw Dan & Siebe win against Coolin and his big serving son Rocco 6-3 6-0.

In the Men’s Singles, James & Jonathan fought out a very even first set tie break after which James triumphed 7-6 6-0 and the Mixed Doubles plate saw Naomi & Thomas beat what must have been a tired Sue & David Hall 6-2 6-4.

A glorious selection of food and cakes was devoured by everyone attending and supporting another great Finals Day.  The bar once again provided necessary refreshments and the trophies were handed out.  Special mention this year of the Pet Paulwell award which deservedly went to the ever smiling and supportive Naomi.  Somewhat less special but no less enjoyable award of CLTC’s Chef of 2024 went to Dan Tarak; if you know, you know!

Many, many, thanks to Sue & Jonathan for organising a great the Summer Tournament this year; Dave Rapp & Helen for managing the food & kitchen; Lynda for getting all the trophies and of course all the competitors and everyone who came along to support another great Finals Day.

Kind regards, Chris
