Calling all Chorleywood club men’s tennis players!
We are starting to get back to normality at the club, at least for playing on the courts, if not the club house and bar. Now is a good time to let you know the latest regarding the below topics:
- Doubles Team tennis coaching – starting weekly on Tuesday 13th April 18:30 for 6 weeks.
- Inter club competitive tennis in the Watford & District Tennis League (WDTL).
- New Singles ladder open for all!
Team Tennis Doubles Coaching
The club are running a new men’s doubles couching squad every Tuesday at 18:30 – 20:00 for 6 weeks from 13th April to 18th May, led by one of our top coaches.
Anyone is welcome who thinks they might want to start playing in one of the four men’s doubles teams.
Cost is £5 for the 1.5 hrs, with tennis continuing afterward as a social to practice our new skills. Don’t worry if you can’t make all sessions, but highly recommended to take advantage of as much as you can. Just bring along a crisp £5 note at the start of the session and you will be most welcome.
We are very fortunate at our club to have four men’s doubles teams in the WDTL, 2 of which are in the lower division. This means that we have a unique opportunity where we have the D team available for players who are new to competition tennis to hone their skills without the pressure of having to win every single match – although of course it’s always nice to win!
This is a perfect occasion to not only join the teams and be involved in exciting tennis matches, but also to play socially with the rest of the wide and varied membership.
Inter club competitive tennis
Normally we will be getting ready for a full summer season of competitive doubles with other clubs in the WDTL. Unfortunately, we have yet to have confirmation from them regarding the format this year which has been proposed as being a home OR away fixture rather than both.
Assuming it does go ahead, then we will be looking forward to fielding 4 men’s doubles, 2 mixed doubles, and 2 ladies doubles teams. If not, then we will be considering running more internal club competitions/leagues/ladders in addition to our normal summer tournament knockout competition.
As soon as we hear from the league regarding the proposal for the inter club fixtures, we’ll let you all know.
New Singles Ladder
We have just started running a free singles ladder at the club. This is currently open to all Men/Junior Men and you can join at any time. For those new to ladders, you can challenge someone up to 10 places higher than you. If you win, you will leapfrog over everyone to occupy their original position, pushing everyone in-between down one place.
This is all run using the Global tennis network web software. Just use the following link to register and join our league and then start challenging! Brilliant for meeting and playing new people. Best of all its totally free!
All Welcome! And don’t worry about your standard, it caters for all levels of play! Just get out and play and have fun!
Looking forward to seeing you on Tuesdays and on the ladder
Kind regards, Jonathan
Men’s team captain
